BELOW AN OLD NEWS STORY ABOUT THE LIONS CLUB.    THE MAQUOKETA
LIONS HAS HAD 3 SEGMENTS OF EXISTANCE.    THE FIRST CLUB STARTED
SOMETIME BEFORE WORLD WAR 2.   THEN DURING THE WAR, IT CEASED.
LONG AFTER WW2, A NEW CLUB WAS FORMED AGAIN.    DENNIS VOY
JOINED IN THE 60'S AND WAS AT TWO DIFFERENT TIMES, THE PRESIDENT.
THEN AROUND THE LATE 90'S, IT FOLDED AGAIN WHEN MEMBERSHIP WENT DOWN BELOW 10 AND THOSE GAVE UP ON KEEPING IT ACTIVE.    THEN AROUND 2007 A NEW CLUB WAS AGAIN FORMED (FOR THE 3RD TIME)  AND DENNIS  JOINED AGAIN TO HELP GET IT GOING.   BUT, SINCE HE WAS THEN AN ACTIVE ROTARIAN, HE HAS REMAINED JUST A NON-ACTIVE LION MEMBER.
IN THE 70'S, THE MAJOR FUND RAISERS EVERY YEAR WAS A DOOR-TO-DOOR BROOM SALE.   SEE  STORY/PHOTO BELOW.     PEOPLE LIKED THE BROOMS, GOOD BROOMS MADE BY THE BLIND AND MADE TO LAST.
NIC WAS THEN MAQUOKETA'S "MR. LION"....RETIRED FROM OWNING A
POPULAR MEAT MARKET ON WEST PLATT, A SHORT DISTANCE FROM MAIN
STREET.    JUNIOR WAS A GOOD SINGER AND SANG AT MANY WEDDINGS
AND FUNERALS.

MORE TO COME...CHECK BACK!
